We decided it was time (way overdue) for another dual-sport session.  Mike came up from Long Island again — this time armed with a new Acerbis fender, flush mounted turn signals, and new handlebars on his ‘97.  Oh yeah, no top case, either.  He was ready.

We also got a little smarter about tire pressure.  It seems we were always losing it when the dirt got too soft or we hit the mud.  This time, we brought along Seth’s little compressor to fill our tires back up.  We dropped the air pressure in our tires today to about 20 PSI — and it really helped.

We met a few people along the way… ATVs, YZ, but no other BMWs — no big surprise there!

Sick Saturday

65+°F and sunny on December 1st in Upstate NY in the Mid-Hudson Valley… what else could we ask for?

Mike’s ‘97 w/new fender.  Mike is Inmate #F650789, and can be reached via email at mfrongi@muffhunter.com

Close up of Mike’s handy work.  He made this bracket himself.

We ran into this ATV/2 stroke crew on the power lines

(Click on the images to look at the MPEG video clips — each are about 1.3 MB)

Then, there was this stream that Mike and I found months ago on another ride we took.  We didn’t have the courage to do it then, but today we had to give it a shot.  It was bigger today than before due to the 5 days of rain we just had.

I went first while Mike was preparing to go — I couldn’t take all the build-up pressure so I just went for it.

Mike went next — and went the fastest and thus made the biggest splash and got the wettest. He walked over and got the camera from Seth who shot the first two video clips.

Last but not least was Seth, who I got to shoot from the other side of the stream and ended up with the best looking video. We all made it, and no one crashed (yet) :)

I went first...

...then Mike went...

...but Seth got the best video!

Stay tuned for more on this story… we later picked up Marty (yup, another F650 dude) and hit the same power lines as we did on Super Sunday.  We had a lot of spills, but no real damage to report.  I did pop my seat with a branch on a spill into the weeds, but nothing else. We were happy to make it to the top of the mountain, find the dirt road again and come home in one piece.  We will be back — VERY SOON!
